The laparoscopic adjustable band is a silicon band with basically an inner tube on the inner surface. It is placed at the top of the stomach and can be adjusted from month to month through tubing and a Mediport, which is basically a chemotherapy port that allows us to adjust the aperture or the opening of the band. The band works in two ways. Once it is filled to the appropriate amount, it takes hunger away. The other way it works is it creates resistance so you cannot eat too quickly or eat too much at one time.
